How Singapore Managed to Steal Pulau Batu Puteh from Malaysia

Imagine you have a house which was left empty because you do not need it as you have another bigger house. One day, your neighbour, who was living in a small hut, moved into your house as his house was getting too crowded. Out of compassion and good heart, you did not say anything but let him stay there, since you already have a bigger house and you also pitied your neighbour.

After a few years, your neighbour started claiming ownership to that house. His argument was that he's been maintaining the house all this while when he was staying there, and you didn't complain his presence there.

Do you agree that this house now belongs to your neighbour? Yes, it makes no sense at all. You were only letting him stay there out of compassion.

Now, what has this story got to do with Malaysia and Singapore? This is exactly how Singapore stole Pulau Batu Puteh from Malaysia. Singapore claims that they have been running things in Pulau Batu Putih, and Malaysia has no right to claim Pulau Batu Puteh due to the lack of exercise by the authorities (on that island) for some 100 years.

Malaysia and particularly the Johor authority have themselves to blame for not staking ownership on Pulau Batu Puteh. In the ICJ ruling, ICJ acknowledges the ownership of Pulau Batu Puteh to the Johor Sultanate, but lost ownership of Pulau Batu Puteh due to the lack of exercise on that island for some 100 years. ICJ’s final decision was based on the fact that from 1850 to 1953, Malaysia did not effect any action or grounds which could be accepted as proof of sovereignty. You can read in detail on ICJ ruling here.

Whatever "lack of exercise by the Johor authorities (on that island) for some 100 years", it does not mean that Singapore has the right to steal Pulau Batu Puteh from Malaysia. It's no different from the story above. Stealing is still stealing, yes, it's just plain stealing.

On a similar note, it is said that Singapore is managing the purification of the raw water in Johor. It is also said Singapore manages our air space as Malaysia lacks the facilities and technology. Hence it is very possible that soon Singapore will be able to claim Johor's purification plant and airspace as their own since they have been taking care of them for so long.

I urge all Malaysians to seriously consider using their economic power and start choosing where to to spend their money - buying less or boycotting Singapore products will be a first step to show that we Malaysians are not happy with our neighbour's unethical unfriendly behaviour.

For all Singaporean readers, always remember that what goes around comes around.

Singapore robs Pulau Batu Puteh from Malaysia

Today is a sad day for all Malaysians. Singapore has robbed Malaysia of an island that does not belong to Singapore. Just look at the map and see for yourself, it does no logic how Pulau Batu Puteh (Singapore calls it Pedra Branca) belongs to Singapore when it's so much nearer to Johor, Malaysia.

Abdullah has some serious explanation to the Malaysian citizens.
